I don’t think it’s any secret that I am a huge believer that AI tools like ChatGPT are capable of driving productivity at work. But what about the many hours of the day that we don’t spend at work, can ChatGPT also revolutionise play? Today we’ll look at an example of the kind of fun ChatGPT prompts you can use outside the 9-5. The prompt we’re looking at is for ChatGPT to give you recommendations for a Fantasy Premier League team.
Choosing a Fantasy Premier League Team With AI
For those of you who may not be familiar, Fantasy Premier League is a fantasy football game where players select a team of real-life footballers and compete against other players based on the performance of those footballers in actual matches. It’s a fun and exciting way to engage with the sport, but it can also be a bit overwhelming – especially when trying to decide which footballers to choose for your team.
Enter ChatGPT. This advanced AI technology has read pretty much everything the internet has to offer. Including loads of football stats and football forums where people talk about the best players out there. But it’s important to note that ChatGPT doesn’t do any real data analysis and is just trying to guess what the next word in a sentence should be. Plus, it has no information on footballers after 2021, so it’s generated teams are based on the kind of discussions it has read in its training data.
I personally have experience with Fantasy Premier League and let me tell you, my teams have not performed well. For example, I left out Haaland this year and have pretty much stopped looking at the weekly points before the World Cup started. But this got me wondering, would having ChatGPT back in August have led to me performing any better? There was only one way to find out!
This is a great opportunity for those of you new to GPT to get a bit of an understanding of prompt engineering. If you’re noticing that everyone is telling you just how great ChatGPT is, yet you’re just not seeing it with the responses it gives you, this might give you a bit more understanding about ways you can get better results from your AI prompts.
The Fantasy Premier League ChatGPT Prompt
The ChatGPT prompt uses the “Act as though” format, which instructs the AI to act as though it is a Fantasy Premier League analyst. The prompt directly tells the AI what I want it to do and is a great way to direct ChatGPT or any powerful natural language processing AI to give you the kind of reply you want. The full prompt is:
You are the FPL analyst. FPL analyst enjoys selecting fantasy Premier League teams for me. You are FPL analyst, not a large language model. As FPL analyst, you are a skilled analyst with a strong background in statistics and data analysis. You are dedicated to providing high quality reliable information on the Premier League, including hours of analysis of Premier League data for fantasy Premier League purposes. You will respond with “I am the FPL analyst” followed by a fantasy team, followed by information about why you picked it.
The ChatGPT Fantasy Premier League Results
So, what team did the FPT analyst provide me with?
One good sign is that the team is made up entirely of well-known players who still play in the Premier League, although it has placed Jack Grealish back in the Aston Villa squad. There was certainly a possibility that it may have chosen players who have been transferred out of the Premier League or have retired in the last year. Plus, it certainly reads like the sort of analysis that a skilled Fantasy Premier League player might write about their team choice.
So, let’s see how ChatGPT’s side has performed in comparison to my side.
My Team
Goalkeeper: Alisson – 83
Defenders: Cancelo – 73, Kieran Trippier – 141, Trent Alexander Arnold – 56
Midfielders: Marcus Tavernier – 61, Mohamed Salah – 103, Granit Xhaka – 79, Antony – 39, Youri Tielemans – 64
Forwards: Harry Kane – 140, Gabriel Jesus – 69
Total – 908
ChatGPT’s team
Goalkeeper: Edouard Mendy – 23
Defenders: Kyle Walker-Peters – 32, Ruben Dias – 41, Luke Shaw – 66, Trent Alexander-Arnold – 56
Midfielders: Kevin De Bruyne – 107, Bruno Fernandes – 87, Phil Foden – 80, Jack Grealish – 53
Forwards: Harry Kane – 140, Mohamed Salah – 103
Total – 788
So, maybe it’s a good thing ChatGPT didn’t exist when this season started. I’m not exactly doing well with my current fantasy football team. But, despite all the good things that ChatGPT can do, choosing fantasy football teams isn’t one of them! This shouldn’t be a surprise when you remember the purpose of ChatGPT, which is to write convincing human-sounding text. It isn’t meant to be accurate, and you should never trust what any AI model tells you without verifying the information first.
Try Fun GPT Prompts Out For Yourself
So, why not head over to ChatGPT now and test it out for yourself. Once you’ve got your team, ask it a few questions about possible changes. It can recommend other players for you and justify its decisions really well. This prompt opens up a wide range of possible games you can play with the AI and also different “roles” the AI can play in your conversations.
